Admission and Requirements for Internship

Admission

The supervised clinical internship program is arranged by the academic coordinator of clinical education (ACCE) at your college or university. To participate in the program, your school must be affiliated with our center. Please check with your ACCE to determine if we are affiliated.

At this time, we are not offering internships to foreign-trained therapists who wish to complete their clinical hours.

Requirements for internship

Interns must comply with the institutional policies and procedures for:

  • Immunizations and TB testing
  • Background check
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support training
  • Hospital Competency Modules (during orientation)

Additional information

Because we are a tertiary care center, and work with clients with complex medical problems, interns must have a strong academic background, be comfortable communicating with patients and staff, and flexible. The site is recommended as a second or third affiliation. Please let the Clinical Education Coordinator know if this is your first affiliation.

Stanford Hospital and Clinics does not discriminate against any interns on the basis of gender, race, creed, color, religion, ancestry, national origin/age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, citizenship, veteran status, or economic status. Interns are required to meet the physical requirements of the position for which they are assigned.

Volunteers and observers

Opportunities for formal observation or volunteer work are limited in respect for patient privacy. We accept only a small number of volunteers each year.

We can schedule meetings with potential physical, occupational or speech therapy students to talk about the role of the acute care therapist.
