What Is DAX Copilot?
Stanford Health Care uses a product called DAX Copilot, also called an ‘AI Scribe’ at other hospitals. Our clinicians use this AI-supported documentation app to securely listen to clinical conversations and generate a clinical note with the medically relevant details. It keeps the interaction focused on you.
How It Is Used
You will be notified before the tool starts recording your visit. Once the recording stops, an algorithm processes the data, and seconds later, it generates a draft clinical note for the clinician’s review.
The technology is able to discern friendly chitchat from important health information. It effectively acts as an invisible assistant to the clinician, helping them take notes about relevant patient history and medical details of the appointment.
The clinician then reviews the notes, adding to them or editing them, and approves the final version for the patient's electronic health record. Throughout the process, all conversations and data remain secure and private.
What Are the Benefits of DAX Copilot?
DAX Copilot allows clinicians to spend more time on their patients.
A Stanford Medicine survey found that about 96% of physicians reported that the technology was easy to use; 78% said that it expedited their clinical notetaking; and two-thirds reported that it saved time.
Frequently Asked Questions
The tool records audio during your care and creates a summary of the important information you and your provider talked about. It may also do other tasks like creating orders for medicines or tests. After your appointment, your provider will review the summary and orders and edit them if needed. Then, they approve and sign the summary and orders. The summary goes directly to the notes section of your medical records.
If the audio recording tool is used, you will be informed. If you prefer the tool not be used, simply let your care team know. In addition, if you do not want certain portions of the conversation recorded, you may ask your provider to pause the recording at any time. If you choose not to be recorded, your provider will have to spend some time during your care taking notes.
We rely on industry leaders in medical data storage that comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This means it meets the federal law standards to protect medical records and other personal health information.
