Our childbirth team at Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare provides specialized care for women who are thinking of pregnancy, as well as expectant moms and newborns. From pregnancy planning through delivery and recovery, we partner with you so you and your newborn get a healthy start.
- Only hospital in Tri-Valley to offer a full spectrum of childbirth care, including an OB laborist for emergencies, a dedicated OB anesthesiologist for pain relief, specialty-trained nursing staff, and Stanford Children’s Health pediatric hospitalists who are on-site, 24/7.
- Education and support from pregnancy planning through your journey to motherhood. Our childbirth classes, nurses, OB/GYNs, and lactation consultants provide support to you and your growing family.
- Support for your birth preferences as well as a “magic hour” after delivery for you and your partner to bond quietly with your baby, skin-to-skin, without unnecessary interruptions.
- Expertise in VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) for women who have had a cesarean delivery and want to try to deliver vaginally in a subsequent pregnancy. All of our OB/GYNs perform VBACs and are supported by our labor and delivery nurses.
- A specialized team that delivers more than 1,200 babies each year. When extra care is needed, we have a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and specialty-trained NICU nurses.
- Breastfeeding support by certified lactation consultants offered every day of the year.

Your childbirth team is highly skilled and focused on a healthy delivery for you and your baby. At Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare, you can expect your doctor and nurses to provide seamless coordination and support throughout your hospital stay.
Your Doctors
Stanford Health Care - ValleyCare obstetricians & gynecologists (OB/GYNs) provide care from pregnancy planning through delivery and recovery. Our doctors employ the latest in maternity care while being respectful of your birth preferences.
Health Care Team
Your childbirth team is highly skilled and focused on a healthy delivery for you and your baby. At Stanford Health Care – ValleyCare, you can expect your doctor and nurses to provide seamless coordination and support throughout your hospital stay. Your team will consist of your OB/GYN, pediatric hospitalist, maternal-child nurses, anesthesiologist and breastfeeding specialist.
OB Laborist
Your OB/GYN provides medical care throughout your pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. If you should need emergency physician care during any part of your stay, our in-house OB Laborist will coordinate care with your OB/GYN.
Pediatric Hospitalist
Your pediatrician will round on your baby during your hospital stay. If your baby needs extra help during delivery or while in the NICU, we have Stanford Children’s Health pediatric hospitalists on-site, around the clock. Stanford Children’s Health is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, medical breakthroughs, and compassionate care.
Nurses and Staff
Your nurses care for you throughout your stay and have years of experience in caring for moms and newborns. Many of our nurses have specialized training in neonatal care, labor and delivery, mom and baby care, and pediatrics.
Anesthesiologist
Our dedicated OB anesthesiologist is available on the unit to collaborate with you and the team and will help you achieve the pain support desired for your delivery.
Breastfeeding Specialist
To provide support for breastfeeding mothers, we have certified lactation consultants who will visit you during your hospital stay and who are available in the Lactation Center after discharge. Our Lactation Center provides breast pumps for purchase or rent, as well as nursing supplies, education and support. Lactation specialists are available every day of the year.
