Transforming Lives With
Advanced Transplant Care
Where Innovation and Care Come Together
Stanford Medicine’s transplant program is widely considered to be one of the best in the world—known for superior quality and outcomes. Our team is highly experienced in both individual and multi-organ transplants. We are committed to personalized, complete care by ensuring we bring appropriate multidisciplinary expertise to every patient and donor.
Our Programs
Our high volumes and outstanding outcomes make the Stanford Medicine Heart Transplant Program one of the largest in the world. The program has the best transplant rate in the United States, with a high organ offer acceptance ratio, leading to more transplants, the shortest waiting time in California, and one of the top three shortest waiting times in the nation.
Our Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program is one of the most successful in the United States. We have earned national recognition for transplant outcomes while improving our patients’ quality of life. We offer highly personalized care and lead research to help keep transplant recipients healthier with limited use of immunosuppressive medications.
Our Liver Transplant Program has consistently achieved outstanding results as one of the top programs in the nation and one of the only programs to offer a limited sobriety pathway to transplant. Our legacy of innovation continues with ongoing clinical trials to induce transplant tolerance and with surgical approaches that abbreviate hospital stays and recovery periods.
Stanford Medicine’s Lung and Heart-Lung Transplant Program continues to perform the highest volume of heart-lung transplants in the nation with outcomes that exceed the national average. We specialize in supporting transplant candidates that other programs consider high-risk.
The Stanford Medicine Auto-Islet Cell Transplantation Program offers an innovative treatment approach to patients with chronic and debilitating pancreatic disorders. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the patient’s pancreas is removed, and islets are harvested for reinfusion back into the patient. This approach carries an 80% efficacy rate for pain treatment.
Living Donation
Patients with advanced kidney or liver disease often wait years for a lifesaving procedure. Many do not survive the wait and never receive a compatible organ.
As a living donor, you can help someone in need get a transplant sooner, which in turn gives others a chance to move higher on the waitlist.
Excellence in Quality and Outcomes
These results speak to the consistency and thoroughness with which we care for patients over time. To learn more about statistics related to heart transplantation, visit the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients.
