Biography
Dr. Anand Athavale is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vascular medicine specialist with Stanford Health Care Vascular and Endovascular Care. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Athavale cares for people with conditions of the veins and lymphatic system, including chronic venous disease, blood clots, and poor blood flow in the legs. He is skilled in using less invasive procedures to treat vein problems and helps patients manage their overall vascular health.
His research looks at new and better ways to treat vein disease, test new closure techniques, and use tools such as artificial intelligence to improve care. His research efforts have earned him grants and scholarships from organizations such as the Society for Vascular Medicine and American Venous Forum.
Dr. Athavale has published many studies in peer-reviewed medical journals, including the Journal of Vascular Surgery and Indian Journal of Critical Care Medicine. I enjoyed my appointment with Athavale. He was good and going over my conditions and needs. I will continue to ask for care from him.
Dr. Athavale has a great bedside manner. He explained things thoroughly and showed me my scans and what he was looking for. He explained what I needed to do, like lose weight, and did not make me feel like I was a bad person because I haven’t been able to do it before. And he offered to help work with my insurance to see if they can get medications approved that have been denied before. I felt very supported and cared for.

He set the pan with tools to remove stiches on the floor that seemed odd. I was not on a table lying down, but sitting on the edge which was awkward having to hold my leg while stiches were removed. I still have pain and swelling of my ankle.
