Biography
Dr. Juarez-Reyes received her PhD in Health Psychology, MD and Internal Medicine residency training from the University of California at San Francisco. Her focus during medical training was in Behavioral Medicine. In 2010, she became board certified in Integrative Medicine through American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. She is currently Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health, Department of Medicine, Stanford University. She serves as Site Director for Internal Medicine Residency program at Stanford. She developed “Beyond Stress”, a six-week group intervention for patients with stress, anxiety, and depression and is the Director of Behavioral health Group Medical Visits. This intervention has now been translated into Spanish, Mas Alla del Estres, and it is delivered to community based Spanish speaking cancer patients.
Her current research evaluates integrative behavioral health group medical visits and the relationship to anxiety, depression, burnout, and sleep in primary care and Spanish speaking community-based populations. Her other health disparities research has been in tobacco cessation practices of community-based providers, breast cancer screening follow-up in Latinx women, Latinx adolescent reproductive behavior, medication eligibility criteria effects in ethnic subgroups, and TB treatment in urban county jails. She enjoys travel, walking with friends, anything science fiction and spending time with her family.

The checkin and my MD visit were both smooth, but there was a long wait to get a blood draw even though no one else was waiting for this procedure.
I had seen her previously, but was less excited about the long drive from my San Mateo residence, so was seeing doctors at Sutter in San Carlos. This video visit re-inforced how much I respect her and enjoy working with her. She is straight-forward, keeps on track, and really felt listened to and understood. I am so pleased that she has a plan of referrals for both Rheumatology and for Wellness/Integrative medicine in San Francisco Stanford facility

Excellent experience
The visit with Dr. Maria was very good, where things failed and still failing is follow up. The insurance needed pre-authorization from the doctor for the prescription. I sent an email from MyHealth, no answer, I called the Clinic and they took a detailed message for Dr Maria and no message back. The pharmacist tried to get authorization back and failed as well. So jhere we are with a prescription that can not be filled and not sure how to get communication or attention to this matter.

Dr. Juarez-Reyes was great- I have a difficult, multisystem, poorly-characterized illness (EDS/MCAS/ME/CFS/Lyme/Fibro/adult PANS/autoimmune encephalitis), and Dr. Juarez-Reyes took the time to listen to my entire history, and expressed interest, concern, and compassion. I have seen many MDs over the years who have stubbornly refused to believe there was anything wrong with me outside a psychiatric condition. Dr. Juarez-Reyes not only had some understanding of my pooly-characterized condition, she was willing to listen, learn, and even offer functional medicine perspectives, when a clinical diagnosis has to be used if diagnostic testing is not yet possible.
Dr. Maria Juarez-Reyes is very thorough, professional, and always takes the time needed to address whatever concerns need to be covered. My husband met her on this visit and he was very impressed with her. Also, getting in to see her is not as difficult as it can be with specialists.

Dr. Juarez-Reyes is always through. Even when she was pressed for time, I did not feel that our visit was rushed. She is one of my favorite doctors.
She arrived on time and apologized for any delay. She listened well and collected background information. She diagnosed the problem, but since she is not a specialist in this area, she took a photo to forward to a specialist. She prescribed medication, gave clear instructions and told me when she expected she would hear from the specialist. Sooner than expected, the specialist informed her he agreed with the diagnosis and treatment plan; she passed that information to me. The medication seems to be working as hoped.

Excellent. Last time I had the same life threatening condition, your appointment line sent me to Express Care where I only saw a PA July 3rd and he did not recognize what the infection was, made me wait 2 days for antibiotics and by then it had doubled in size. That's why I insisted on seeing my regular doctor who has treated these issues before and understood the seriousness of being seen and treated right away. She is terrific!

I feel Dr. Juarez-Reyes spends too much time typing in information & not enough getting to know the patients whole situation. I feel doctors are becoming data input technicians.
The doctor was very enthusiastic and helpful. She spent over an hour with me, reviewing my medical history and discussing my current medical needs and options. She is strongly supportive of integrative medicine, which I greatly appreciate, and is confident that my medical issues can not only be treated but resolved. She had already contacted a specialist to see me before I'd even gotten to my office after the appointment. It was a fully positive experience! The only thing I'm unsure of is when I need to return to see her in the midst of going to various referred specialists.

Dr. Juarez-Reyes is the best primary care physician that I've ever had. I have not been extremely happy with Stanford Health Care, but Dr. Juarez-Reyes will keep me here because I don't want to lose her as my primary care physician.

I had a lot of questions and appreciate the Dr. to allow time to answer them. I didn't feel rushed.
My visits with this physician have not been good experiences for a number of reasons. I have not felt listened to as she frequently interrupts and has even reprimanded me when I attempt to advocate for myself. It has been apparent that she frequently interprets my questions as challenges, and has, in fact stated that. Recently I left a message that was deemed "urgent", regarding my concern about URI, however did not receive a call back. When I called again the following day I was told that the physician did receive my message....and was informed that I needed to schedule another appointment with her, although I had just been seen by her the day before. In the 2 years I have been a patient of this physician, she has never contacted me personally when I called with concerns or questions. Needless to say, I do not wish to continue with this physician, nor will I recommend her to others.

wish each visit wasn't so hurried. I had another concern but she only had to go over one issue. i truly appreciate her care and expertise, but wish visits weren't so rushed. There is always a wait (at almost all SHC doctor visits and then they rush). I write everything down ahead of time so that I can address it with her immediately and tell her everything she needs to know about my issue, since I know that it will help her, but it feels wrong that everything needs to be rushed. I walked out feeling like I still had questions, so I did send an email. I received a reply the next day, it was not an answer just an acknowledgment. Odd) I never experienced that when I went to Palo Alto Medical (for 14 years prior joining SHC). I wish I could afford to go back to PAMF. the doctors and nurses weren't so rushed. I do really like Dr Juarez-Reyes. She tries to give you her all. And she's good. She just doesn't have time she probably wished she had with a patient. Every visit doesn't require time, but some times they do. When they do, they should get it. Everyone is trying, it's just is the way things are set up, the way things are running ... it needs tweaking.
What a wonderful doctor! Loved her from the start! Dr. Juarez-Reyes made me feel welcome and supported from the moment she walked into the exam room, she is thorough, and you know she will manage your care with expertise and knowledge. You know that she is listening and that she will take care of you, all while warming you with her smile.

Dr. Juarez-Reyes is hands-down one of the best primary care physicians I have seen. She is not only kind and personable but also is clearly very knowledgeable and can relate that knowledge to patients easily. Throughout the entire visit, Dr. Juarez-Reyes was very patient and attentive, and it was very apparent that she truly cares about her patients and their overall well-being down to every last detail.

she is great. i just wish she was briefed or reviewed some sort of documentation to remind her of the reason i am coming back for multiple follow-ups. she mentions the general reason but i have to remind her the placement and nuances.
I did find the follow up notes a little difficult to understand (re: exactly what I was supposed to do next)
Dr. Juarez-Reyes was very rushed throughout the visit, only spending 7-8 minutes total with me. Her exam was rushed, she barely let me talk and explain my symptoms. She also cut me off numerous times when explaining what medications I was taking. When I told her I had taken 20-30 mg of Prednisone to help with my sore throat because I was out of town with my family and feeling pretty terrible, she barely let me finish and scolded me for doing this. I expressed that I understood this and she asked very rudely, "What is it that you do exactly?" And I told her that I am a critical care nurse. She was very rude and condescending.

I really like her and have confidence in her abilities. But, I felt like I was "on the clock." particularly for a first appointment. There was no time for a pap smear, no physical examination except for what I asked about (knee) and vitals. I am accustomed to a far more thorough physical exam and would have expected that here, especially as it was our first meeting.
I would have appreciated more concern and information about my colon's diverticulosis. Her exclamations of "there's so many!" triggered my own worry about what it could mean but she did not pursue it any further. I guess i am to assume there's nothing to be concerned about; however information about whether there is something i could do to reduce the diverticulosis, etc. would have been appreciated. Still, if the doctor is not showing worry, i will not concern myself about it.
Dr. Juarez-Reyes was excellent. She communicated well with my 90 year old mother and addressed a myriad of concerns in our first visit. She was very caring.
My reasons for transferring all my medical records for appts., and specialists at Stanford has never been questioned. The BEST, decision!!

Dr. Guadalupe Juarez-Reyes was very thorough, and fully explained my health issues. Very impressed that she covered the different issues I have and showed the connections in a "wholistic" way, in the interest of pinpointing the key concerns.
This was an initial visit to initiate care & I will not go back. Dr. Juarez-Reyes did not read by medical history at all and spent much of visit advising about minor issues w/out having a sense of my medical history/surgeries/health concerns. She was also abrupt, contradicted advice that I have received from specialists (at Stanford) w/a rude quip ("Well, that is not true, but clearly you have a relationship w/this other doctor.") Left me very unsettled. Primary care doctors should read histories before doling advice!

Although this was my first time meeting with this care provider, she made me feel comfortable and confident in her care. I greatly appreciated the time she took to thoroughly review my records and understand my medical history. She was personable, understanding, non-judgmental and knowledgable. She is efficient but doesn't rush through the appointment. She clearly keeps up to date on current medical research and recommendations for women's healthcare. She puts you at ease as a patient.

This was my initial (first) appointment with Dr. Juarez-Reyes. Spent an hour with me! I felt very heard. I liked her thoroughness and was pleased to see that she moved her computer screen with my medical history, so that I could see what she was looking at. I felt like I was participating in my care and not that she was only looking at the screen. She was really relating to me - very important in a Dr. In summary, I was very happy with the appointment and also with the follow-up info she sent me on My Health.
