Dr. Lin is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist, focusing on the medical and surgical management of cornea conditions, as well as cataract surgery. He has launched cutting edge surgical procedures at Stanford including ultra-thin DSAEK, DMEK and DALK at Stanford. He conducts clinical trials on cornea transplantation and ocular inflammation and infections. Dr. Lin sees patients at the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University. Charles Lin, MD received his AB in Environmental Science and Public Policy from Harvard University, graduating summa cum laude. He attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, where he received his M.D. with honors. Following an internship in Internal Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Heed Fellowship, a prestigious national award for ophthalmologists entering a career in academic medicine. He received subspecialty Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery training at the F.I. Proctor Foundation and University of California, San Francisco, one of the premier fellowships in the country.

I am answering this about Dr. Mekomnen and Dr. Lin. they attended to me, sometimes separately and sometimes during the same appointment as a team. I LOVE them both. They have different styles but both were absolutely listening, understanding my fears and frustrations and respecting my wishes. They both were great in explaining what might be a different direction or thought than I had and WHY they thought the direction would be to my benefit. They were both kind, concerned and I felt they really wanted to cure me.

I never felt involved with the prescribed next steps. I don't feel it was necessary for my condition. But it was more I describe symptoms, they look at my eyes and ask some questions, and they prescribe medicine and dose changes.

Other than putting a name to my condition, Dr. Lin did not discuss possibilities for treatment which was concerning to me as my eyesight has degraded significantly. Additionally, I had concerns about how quickly this came on which I discussed repeatedly and he repeatedly ignored those concerns. Two of his associates came in to examine me and spouted a ridiculous amount of scientific terms and didn't address me personally once. I felt like a lab rat.

Dr. Lim is not warn and fuzzy. He is a manner-of-fact man, which is not bad but it would have been better if I was consulted about the type of lens to use, not just told. Also a minute spent on a patients anxiety would also be highly valued.

The first visit was in the late afternoon, the only appointment available at a very short notice, and the doctor was extremely busy but still saw all of his patients. I was very grateful that I got to see Dr. Lin on that day.) He is extremely competent and reassuring.

He was associate clinical professor at Stanford assisting Stanford surgery residents at San Jouquin county Hospital , many years ago !He is also to have a cochlear implant at a later date

Dr Lin is exceptional. I am 72 so I really do have a lot to compare him to. The results of my cataract surgeries compare favorably to my friends (who went to other physicians). Basically my vision is now unbelievably good.. Like I was 21 again And I did have some issues that made my surgeries somewhat challenging.!!! And as I'm sure you hear from his other patients, his God - given personality, manner, and sincere concern for his patients is exactly what every patient would want.

I've unfortunately been going to doctors my entire life (had polio) and Dr. Lin's knowledge, caring respect concern & willingness to answer questions put him way, way at the top - he's extraordinary.

After waiting for about an hour in a room by myself, when the doctor finally did come in he was obviously in a hurry and showed zero concern for my problem. He was there for about 2 minutes, looked at my eyes and then told me I was fine. When I questioned that he told me to see an eyelid specialist. I was there for an ulcer/corneal abrasion and pain and swelling in my eye for which I was seen in the ER. I am not sure what that has to do with my eyelids. I actually have been meaning to call to complain but since I received this survey, I will voice my complaint here as well. He was definitely trying to rush me out since he was running way behind schedule.
I can not praise Dr. Lin highly enough. he is friendly, listens attentively to my concerns and is a gifted surgeon.

The Doctor was patient, kind, showed a lot of concern for my condition and answered all my questions with great empathy, gave me encouragement and told me some very important information about my condition that will help me plan out my treatment. My home circumstances have made planning this procedure extraordinarily difficult. The physician was extremely capable at listening with an "inner ear". I appreciate deeply his medical skill and caring approach.

He's nothing short of amazing!! I thought I would need full cornea transplants (after going blind) which take a year before you can see. He's one of the few that can do DMEC just transplant cells destroying my corneas before I go blind & you can see 2 weeks later!! A miracle! Genius! So, so lucky to have him as my doctor!
