Dr. Lewis specializes in autoimmune connective tissue diseases, immunobullous diseases, and other inflammatory skin diseases including psoriasis and sarcoidosis. He completed medical school at The George Washington University School of Medicine and dermatology residency at The University of Rochester, where he was chief resident. He also completed a Master’s of Public Health at Johns Hopkins and a fellowship in autoimmune connective tissue diseases at Stanford University.
He believes multidisciplinary and holistic care is key to treat patients with systemic inflammatory diseases. He holds a rheumatology-dermatology clinic with a rheumatologist, Dr. Janice Lin, as well as a dermatology-ophthalmology clinic with an ophthalmologist, Dr. Christopher Ta, and is the dermatologist for the sarcoidosis program, all with this primary goal of providing high quality, collaborative, patient-centered care.

I always recommend him to people experiencing autoimmune skin disorders. A local doctor who treated me in the hospital found Dr. Lewis for me when I was hospitalized a few years ago and I am so grateful.
Dr. Lewis is more my style of doctor. He's very open-minded. His wife is a functional medicine doctor. He's literate across multiple medical perspectives - not just the western approach. He has opinions but is not exaggerated about them. He's calm, curious, supportive, and appropriately optimistic. I really love working with him. He seems like a person who values his own health and has a multifaceted understanding of what health means. I hope he is treated very well at Stanford as an employee. I feel so lucky to work with him. I always leave our meetings feeling uplifted, confident, and like I work with the right team of doctors (which very much includes him!).

I go to both Stanford and Sutter facilities and even though I need to drive a distance to get to Stanford the care between the two is like night and day. From the front desk people to the residents and doctors the care is excellent. If I lived closer I would solely go to Stanford. My original appointment was cancelled and was switched to Dr. Lewis. I would go back to him again. So thorough, so nice, explained a lot.

Provider fights for you on insurance issues, always answers every question you have (pretty sure he works through his lunch), open to patient input on what to try next. Has expert, detailed knowledge of the intersection of blood vessels, immune system, nociceptors. Being very smart, he might be overly committed to his theories / doesn't pivot quickly with new data points. Not having much experience yet, he might not recognize when a case is severe / refractory and when patient would benefit from referrals to pain management, neurology, NIH, or other dermatologists. I recommend him highly to others with my condition. With more experience he will be a world class doctor

Dr. Lewis was very compassionate and knowledgeable. I suffer from severe contact dermatitis to shampoos and cosmetics, and am in need of allergy patch testing. Dr. prescribed medication, and recommended a couple of products for my face and hair which worked beautifully. There is a 6-9 month wait for patch testing, but Dr Lewis contacted the patch testing clinic and got me in the very next day. He is a wonderful doctor, and I feel so fortunate to have been under the care of this outstanding physician.

Dr Lewis are always very good with the diagnose, and he also keeps up with the recent developed medication and side effects. With his help, my psoriasis went from absolutely out of control to 95% under controlled. Also, recently i have a skin out break on face and neck area, with a photo I sent to him, his prescription was able to resolve my outbreak in two days. I'm very grateful to have him as my dermatologist.

I would have liked if the doctor had been more hands on. The doctor did not examine my skin as a previous provider had done and sat in a distance talking to me about the issue. He based the follow-up instructions just on questions that I answered.
Dr. Lewis is incredible and takes the time to explain and explore any and every concern I had in the visit. Even for a non-related issue, he conversationally explained ideas and causation and I not only learned a ton, it was just easy to talk with him and made for a stress-free visit.

This appointment was by far the best experience I have had at any doctor's office. I have never had a doctor spend as much time with me as I did here at Stanford Health Care. Not only was my doctor extremely thorough with explaining my skin condition, but he asked me questions beyond the purpose of my appointment; I didn't feel as if the appointment was rushed (as it usually is elsewhere). Dr. Lewis, his MA, and receptionists were great.

And then he asked me questions no other doctor had asked (and I've seen MANY regarding this condition), which may finally be the diagnosis of my "mystery" condition (MRI and visit to neurologist will confirm soon). I came in shortly after Christmas and explained that I had plans to travel shortly after New Year's. The doctor called with my test results on Sat., right before New Year's Eve, which I can't say how much I appreciated. It was a relief not to have the test results hanging over my head on New Year's, and I also appreciated how quickly the lab was able to process the biopsy. Great experience all around, or as much of a good experice getting a mole biopsied can be.

After suffering 3 months from a spider bite and several opinions from two Dermatologist, Dr Lewis was able to prescribe the right course of treatment and in 3 days I have experienced almost 100% reduction in skin outbreaks. Dr Lewis is my hero!!

A very thorough visit covering all my issues
Dr. Lewis was my Doctor and he was very good. From the first time I meet him he know what to do with me. The first dermatologist I went to didn't really help me. He knew he wasn't going anything for me and did not want to keep me as a patient. I'm so glad he refered me to Stanford for light therapy, because I wasn't getting anywhere other wise.

Dr. Lewis is amazing. He is so thoughtful and so caring. He remembers everything about me from one visit to the next. He also consults with other doctors about my case. He's willing to navigate the complex structure of appealing an insurance denial for a drug that could make a meaningful difference in my life. I have full trust and confidence in him. He cares. He listens. He suggests things... My condition is extremely complex and rare. He's given me relief I haven't experienced in years. I am so appreciative of him and his helpful staff. I have also been seeing Dr. Hollmig for PDL treatments. I'm not sure if this survey is a request for him or Dr. Lewis so I'll also give a review of Dr. Hollmig. Dr. Hollmig is incredibly caring and sincere. He genuinely wants healing for his patients and celebrates improvement with me, similar to how a family member would. He is very skilled and loving. My comfort is very important to him during my laser procedures. He makes every accommodation necessary to be sure I'm as comfortable as possible when I am receiving my treatments (ice packs, numbing cream). He slows down his pace if the pain gets too intense. He's also a great support system getting me through it. He was keen enough to know that Dr. Lewis should see me as he treats edge cases like mine (Hailey-Hailey) with success. What a relief because its next to impossible to find anyone who has had experience with this disease. I'm so thankful for his recommendation to Dr. Lewis. I am so very happy with the care I am receiving with from both Dr. Lewis and Dr. Hollmig.

The doctor that I see on a regular basis, Dr. Fiorentino, was on sabbatical, and in his place, I saw Dr. Lewis. He spent a lot of time with me to understand my issue and was very helpful in explaining different options that I might try. I was very pleased with the care that Dr. Lewis provided.
