Biography
Dr. Martha Man joined Southbay Oncology Hematology Partners in September 2006. She continues the tradition of specializing in breast cancer that Klaus Porzig, M.D. started in 1979. Dr. Man received her Bachelors in Arts degree with honors and distinction in Human Biology and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree also at Stanford University. Dr. Man performed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at University of Michigan. She completed her Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at University of California, San Francisco. During her training, she conducted clinical research focusing on breast cancer with Dr. Hope Rugo. Dr. Man is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.
Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Man lives in Los Altos with her husband and two children. She enjoys cooking, swimming, running, and playing the piano.

Dr. Man spent as much time with me as I needed, her explanations were perfectly clear, and she showed genuine understanding and compassion for my situation. Although not all staff seem to be aware of difficulty encountered by those with hearing needs,my doctor was most helpful and pleasant as usual. Also, one gentleman behind the reception desk noticed my difficulty in locating the sensor return receptacle and kindly took it from me. So my recommendation would be very good for Dr.Man and good for overall experience.

Martha is a wonderful oncologist. I can't say enough good things about her. Her approach to discussing my options post surgery made all the difference in my ability to move forward with a chemo plan,. She designed a unique, flexible weekly schedule that allowed me to feel that I was still in control of the process, and she was always available to answer any questions or concerns I might have. I can honestly say that, had she not been my oncologist, I might not have opted for chemo at all. I think her ability to connect with her patients is rare and special. Stanford is very lucky to have her.

Dr Man spent well over an hour with me. She explained the two pathology reports in detail. She walked me through treatment possibilities based on current clinical studies findings. She outlined the genetic testing process as these are likely oncogenetjc cancers. She was succinct, clear, warm, kind. Dr. Man is very adept at explaining medical concepts in ways that increase my knowledge base and enable me to process the information as we discuss it. Working with her truly is a supportive and deep dialogue. She did not rush. I felt confident with the plan we had mutually worked out (her next steps, my next steps). By the time we finished it was well after 6 pm. We had spent roughly 80 minutes together yet she had not rushed at all. I am so grateful — physically, mentally, emotionally, that she is my physician. I trust her implicitly and I know that my inner resilience is strengthened by our wonderful working partnership.

She listens to what I say even if it is not related to the breast cancer directly. Dr. Man never makes me feel rushed or that she has to leave for another appointment. She always takes her time and answers all my questions - even answers the same questions again. I feel like she genuinely cares about me.
At times I have to wait a bit for the appointment but I figure this is because she is just taking her time with her other patients and is being thorough with them as well. I appreciate her being thorough with her patients even if I have to wait a little while for my own appointment as I would like her to take the same necessary time with me.

I have reoccurring issues with support. It's caused me a great deal of stress and emotional trauma.

didn't feel like I was treated like a mass group of patients but rather as an indivdual with my own set of issues vs being pooled into a group or set of regular patients. This has always bothered me about doctors. they tend to see the same set of people over and over and then start adding you into that group of patients and treat you medically the same. I don't think that is the correct type of care.

Had issue with getting a copy of my blood test even tho Dr. Man gave me an order for blood to be drawn at Dr. Josel Cabaccan (My Thyroid Dr.) office. He had to draw blood for his office & drew blood for Dr.Man. My veins are very tricky and your girls cannot do it after 4 try's! (Only Marta Roeder,RN,OCN can get the job done) Also at San Jose Medical.....AJ, in the blood lab gets it on the first try & he uses no heat... So in-order to save my veins, I like to get all my blood work done at once for all my Doctors. As I do not want a "port". My problem is your system/rules does not PLAY NICE WITH OTHER DOCTOR" OFFICES

My Dr. didn't seem to exactly know what I had previously had done, which made me feel she wasn't fully aware of my medical condition. This is not giving the "personal" touch for patients. I had gone through 3 surgeries, and she should have seemed more aware of this when she saw me. Made me uncomfortable with her as being my doctor of record throughout the ordeal of all this in the past 2 years. Quite a surprise and disappointing.
