Fire Safety in 500P
As we move into 500P it is imperative that we all know how to respond to a fire. We expect that the California Department of Public Health may show up and ask questions of physicians and staff to be sure we are prepared. It is important to know to respond using “RACER” and to shelter in place unless smoke or fire are visible in your area. Please click here for the one page tip sheet for critical details. 500P has specific Areas of Refuge on each unit in the stairwell vestibules where you can go for shelter and be protected from smoke and fire, and which have communications systems within them to let people know you are there.
500P Patient Day 1 P-tube
P-tube functionality is currently being optimized but will not be ready for 500P Patient Day 1.
- P-tube will continue to function within 300P and LPCH with the exception of time-sensitive specimens (i.e. blood gas, lactate, ionized calcium, STAT, and SUPERSTAT specimens) given recent significant delays due to P-tube slow-downs/downtimes.
- A dedicated 24/7 Runner Program has been created to transport time-sensitive specimens from all locations and all 500P specimens.
- iSTAT use has also been extended to all high-risk areas for blood gas and lactate. If iSTAT cannot be used, call for a runner before drawing the sample to ensure there is no delay in transporting the specimen to the 300P Clinical Lab (must reach lab within 10 minutes).

TJC Message of the Week
Click here for this week’s "Message of the Week.” This is part of our ongoing survey readiness efforts here at SHC. The intent of this message is to provide information on focused topics each week, which are based on previous survey issues and important practice reminders. Please share with your respective staff (in huddles, rounds, meetings and post on your Vis Wall). Thank you in advance for helping SHC to be survey ready.
