The Stanford Movement Disorders Center provides the full range of care for people with all types of movement disorders. Our movement disorder experts partner with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs and goals.
Computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) is a way to test your balance in various situations. Our CDP system combines virtual reality with moving force plates that assesses in real time sensory, balance, and vestibular functions. It is the only system of its kind in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Your CDP test will include standing on a platform that shifts underneath your feet. We can observe, in great detail, if you are leaning too far forward or backward. You may undergo a number of other tests that challenge your balance.
These tests help us identify the issues affecting your balance. They will also track your progress during rehabilitation.
Deep brain stimulation
The Kinematic Laboratory also offers deep brain stimulation programming for initial and follow-up visits. For some types of movement disorders, the Kinematic Laboratory helps doctors discern whether medication or deep brain stimulation could be most effective for you. In the past, this level of detail could not be gathered or analyzed.
The Stanford Balance Center is one of few medical centers in the country to offer an interdisciplinary program for comprehensive testing and community outreach.
Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate a new medical approach, device, drug, or other treatment. As a Stanford Health Care patient, you may have access to the latest, advanced clinical trials.
Open trials refer to studies currently accepting participants. Closed trials are not currently enrolling, but may open in the future.
For your convenience, you may check in for all same-day appointments at the Stanford Neuroscience Health Center through a centralized, check-in desk near the front lobby. In addition to all outpatient services, you also can access onsite pre-surgery consultations at the center.
Appointments are available by physician referral only. Ask your doctor's office to fax a letter of referral, contact information, insurance information and records to 650-723-6002. We will review your records and contact you about an appointment.
