Certification as the nation's first Comprehensive Stroke Center and recertification as a Level 1 Trauma Center, the highest ranking for trauma centers in the United States, recognizes the neurocritical care team's broad expertise. These certifications acknowledge comprehensive, quality care for complex, life-threatening neurological illnesses.
Patients may be transferred using Stanford Life Flight air or ground transport. Our expert team of critical care transport nurses brings quality Stanford care and expertise to the patient.
Our multispecialty neurocritical care team's expertise and experience allows Stanford to offer:
- Pioneering Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and CT neuroimaging techniques
- Advanced neuromonitoring capabilities including EEGs, brain tissue perfusion monitoring, intracranial pressure monitoring, cerebral oxygenation monitoring, and quantitative automated pupillometry
- A hybrid suite where diagnostic imaging, neurosurgical operations and interventional procedures can all be performed, reducing the need to move critically-ill patients
- Consultation for intensive care unit patients at other hospitals with primary neurological illnesses or neurologic complications of systemic illnesses
Neurocritical Care Team
Our multispecialty team of experienced neurocritical care specialists includes fellowship-trained neurocritical care doctors, stroke neurologists, neurointerventional radiologists, neurosurgeons, and a neurocritical care/stroke nursing team.
The neurocritical team provides 24-hour coverage of the Neurocritical Care unit, the Emergency Room and other inpatient hospital units, caring for patients with primary neurologic illness, neurological complications of systemic illness and neurological emergencies. Team members also have training in neurovascular disease and cover acute stroke cases and inpatient stroke care.
