Always feel free to bring someone with you to your appointments. A family member or friend can help ask questions, remember the information your care team gives you, and provide support.
Write down your questions before your appointment and rank them in order of importance, beginning with the most important ones. If there isn’t enough time to have all your questions answered during your appointment, ask your doctor who you can speak with to get your other questions answered.
The ideal time to come in for your first obstetric appointment is between 8-10 weeks. The first visit is a pregnancy verification, where you will undergo a quick ultrasound to confirm how far along you are. At that time, we will schedule your first OB visit with the physician of your choice. We usually recommend that you to see them around 10 weeks for a more comprehensive visit where you will have a chance to ask your doctor questions, get lab testing explained, and undergo a complete physical.
Our office does treat certain infertility conditions, many of which are not covered by insurance. We recommend that a woman who has been trying to get pregnant, wait until she has been unsuccessful for 12 months before attempting infertility treatment, unless there is another underlying condition that has been diagnosed to affect fertility.
Our OB/GYN’s deliver their babies at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley.
