Treatments

Stanford's shoulder surgeons offer the open reconstruction of the shoulder:

Reverse total shoulder replacement surgery

A highly technical surgical procedure that changes the orientation of the shoulder using a reverse ball-and-socket prosthesis.

Total shoulder replacement surgery

Replaces the bone surfaces of the shoulders ball and socket joint with a metal head attached to a stem in the upper arm and a plastic socket, which is usually performed when cartilage becomes worn and underlying bone develops spurs.

Arthroscopic surgery

A minimally invasive surgical procedure for treating many orthopaedic conditions.

Resurfacing shoulder replacement

An alternative to traditional shoulder replacement surgery, which allows patients to retain more of their natural bone, replacing only the diseased surface of the joint instead of the entire joint.

Treatment of fractures of the shoulder girdle

Various surgical techniques and immobilization can be used to treat these fractures.

Tendon transfers for irreparable rotator cuff tears

A surgical procedure for the treatment of irreparable rotator cuff tears in which the tendon from its normal point of anchorage to another.

Complex instability problems

Treatment options to evaluate, stabilize and repair a spectrum of shoulder disorders including dislocation, mobility, tears, and arthritic joint and cartilage degeneration.
