Causes and Risk Factors

A risk factor is anything that increases your risk of getting a disease. Risk factors for AML include:

  • Smoking
  • Older age
  • Male gender
  • Previous exposure to radiation or chemotherapy
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals like benzene (found in gasoline)
