Treatments for Benign Esophageal Tumors
Treatments for Benign Esophagus Tumors
Most benign esophagus tumors are small and do not require treatment. If they grow large enough to cause symptoms, we may need to remove them. However, you may not need surgery.
Experts at the Esophagus Center specialize in using minimally invasive approaches whenever possible. Offering expertise and treatments only available in high volume centers such as Stanford, our dedicated team helps you avoid complications, like esophageal cancer (adenocarcinoma cancer).
Your treatment may include:
- Endoscopic mucosal resection: Using a special instrument to access your esophagus (endoscope), we trap your tumor and remove it. Learn more about esophagus resection.
- Endoscopic submucosal dissection: This procedures starts by creating a cushion between healthy tissue and your tumor with a small amount of fluid. Doctors then remove your tumor (dissection). Learn more about endoscopic submucosal dissection.
