About this Treatment: Breast Conserving Surgery/Lumpectomy
Innovative Techniques for Breast Conserving Surgery/Lumpectomy
Oncoplastic surgery
This technique combines tumor removal with plastic surgery in one procedure to minimize the loss of breast volume and to preserve the contours of your breast. Our surgeons perform this technique by rearranging the breast tissue to realign the nipple area and create symmetry.
Quadrantectomy
In this procedure, we can remove large tumors that traditionally required a full mastectomy. Some women choose this option as an extra measure against cancer recurrence. Like our other procedures, we can provide immediate breast reconstruction to give you your desired cosmetic appearance.
Small scar surgery
Our surgeons strive to keep any scars as small as possible. We place them in cosmetically appropriate areas to decrease visibility. Our expertise in plastic surgery allows us to use the same incision techniques that cosmetic surgeons use in breast augmentation for excellent aesthetic results.
Multifocal tumor lumpectomies
Women who have multiple tumors (multifocal breast cancer) may have been told that lumpectomy is not a possibility. At Stanford, we have the capacity to treat this condition with lumpectomies and other breast-conserving strategies. Our advanced MRI technology allows us to pinpoint tumors with greater precision, increasing your likelihood of a successful outcome for lumpectomy surgery.
Lymphedema monitoring
Lymphedema is a condition of excessive swelling that can occur when lymph nodes are damaged or blocked. At Stanford, we have additional expertise in monitoring your lymph levels before, during, and after treatment for early detection of lymphedema symptoms.
If any concerns develop, our leading Center for Lymphatic and Venous Disorders can help. Our experts aim to restore the normal volume and texture of areas affected by breast cancer treatment.
