Gastrectomy
What is Gastrectomy?
During a gastrectomy, we remove a portion of your stomach, making it easier for you to move food from your stomach to your gastrointestinal tract (gastric emptying). Traditionally known as a weight loss therapy for morbidly obese patients, gastrectomy is an option when other treatments fail to relieve your symptoms.
Gastrectomy is major surgery and carries certain risks. However, as a fully accredited American College of Surgeons Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®, we adhere to the highest quality and safety standards in everything we do. Even more, studies conducted by Stanford researchers show that minimally invasive techniques, such as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, are as safe as or safer than other weight loss procedures, including laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery.
