What Is Long Pulsed Laser Treatment?
Techniques for Long Pulsed Laser Treatment
Long pulsed laser treatments usually take only a few minutes in an outpatient visit to one of our state-of-the-art clinics.
To begin, you will use an eye cover or goggles to wear during the procedure for your protection.
Most patients receive more than 1 treatment.
After long pulsed laser treatments
After pulsed dye laser treatment, ice may be applied to cool the treated area. A patch or bandage may be applied to prevent damage to the treated area.
Follow-up skin care is simple. Use a moisturizer, such as Aquaphor or Vaseline, 2 to 3 times a day to help protect your skin and speed healing.
Sunblock is essential – to help protect you and minimize the chance of pigmentary changes in your skin. Sunblock for one month before treatment also is recommended. Tanned skin blocks the pulsed dye laser light and increases the risk of side effects. Scarring after pulsed dye laser treatment is rare.
- You can use makeup starting on the second day after treatment.
- If any crust forms, do not pick it or try to remove it.
- Bruising usually fades quickly – within 3 to 10 days.
Your doctor may make additional recommendations for your care after pulsed dye laser treatment to help make sure you get the best result possible.
Potential side effects
Side effects of long pulsed laser treatments are generally minimal.
The most common side effect is bruising and usually clears within 3 to 10 days. Less common side effects include temporary pigmentary changes usually lasting a few weeks to several months.
What to Expect from Long Pulsed Laser Treatment
Long pulsed laser treatment can be especially effective to remove unwanted hair and to treat damaged blood vessels in the legs.
The doctors on our Dermatologic Surgery team are experts in using the most advanced long pulsed laser technology. We have helped refine the most sophisticated procedures to make them as effective and safe as possible for our patients.
Most patients see results immediately, and the treatment is safe for all skin and hair types.
You may feel a warming or tingling sensation during treatment. After treatment, the feeling may be like a mild, temporary sunburn.
