What Is Long Pulsed Laser Treatment?
Types of Long Pulsed Laser Treatments
Long pulsed lasers are systems that deliver a longer pulse of light (30 to 50 milliseconds) than other lasers. The light is absorbed by hair follicles or by abnormal blood vessels. The light then turns into heat that destroys the unwanted hair or vessels.
Pulsed dye laser treatments use shorter pulses of bright light, usually for conditions where treatment penetration doesn’t need to be as deep as with long pulsed lasers.
Pulse light rejuvenation or Intense pulse light or IPL systems (sometimes called a photo facial) also use light and heat but are not actually lasers.
What to Expect from Long Pulsed Laser Treatment
Long pulsed laser treatment can be especially effective to remove unwanted hair and to treat damaged blood vessels in the legs.
The doctors on our Dermatologic Surgery team are experts in using the most advanced long pulsed laser technology. We have helped refine the most sophisticated procedures to make them as effective and safe as possible for our patients.
Most patients see results immediately, and the treatment is safe for all skin and hair types.
You may feel a warming or tingling sensation during treatment. After treatment, the feeling may be like a mild, temporary sunburn.
