Risks of Surgery for Cervical Cancer
Your doctors take great care to minimize the risks of surgery. As with any surgery, there is a small chance of infection or bleeding. Your surgeon will review specific risks related to your surgery.
Other risks include:
- Injuring surrounding body organs or nerves.
- When lymph nodes are removed, there is a risk of a condition called lymphedema. Lymph fluid may build up, which can cause swelling to the legs.
Your health care team will monitor you after surgery to make sure your healing is complete.
