In the Fast Lane: Shorter Treatment Times for Cancer Patients with Increased Speed, Power and Precision of Radiation Therapy

Varian Medical Systems

The Stanford Cancer Center is the first treatment center on the West Coast and the fifth in the world to offer cancer patients the TrueBeam. Its newly-designed linear accelerator delivers radiation at a faster dose rate than most conventional linear accelerators, which can reduce treatment time by half. The TrueBeam also has a 4D imaging system and respiratory gating that improves accuracy to under a millimeter and reduces radiation exposure to the patient by one-quarter.
