STANFORD, CALIF. – Stanford Hospital today was named to the top 10 on the U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of the best hospitals in the nation. The ranking, which reflects the hospital’s spot among the top 1 percent of more than 5,000 hospitals surveyed, is based on outstanding performance across multiple areas of care, with factors such as quality, patient safety, and reputation. Stanford Hospital was also ranked in 13 medical specialties and the number one hospital in the San Jose metropolitan area.
“We are very pleased that Stanford Hospital has again been named to the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll,” said Stanford Health Care President and CEO David Entwistle. “This national recognition is a testament to the outstanding commitment to quality patient care and the unique Stanford spirit of innovation shared by all our physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and everyone on our care teams. We look forward to continuing our collective work to ensure that each and every patient receives personalized care of the highest quality and value.”
Each year, U.S. News & World Report gathers and analyzes data from more than 5,000 medical centers and surveys more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in various adult specialties. Stanford Hospital was ranked in 13 medical specialties for 2017-18: cancer; cardiology & heart surgery; diabetes & endocrinology; ear, nose & throat; gastroenterology & GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology & neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology; rheumatology; and urology.
“This recognition on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll would not be possible without our committed Stanford Medicine faculty and caregivers,” said Lloyd B. Minor, M.D., Dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine. “Our ability to conduct translational medical research, provide proactive and precise care to our patients, and educate the physicians and medical experts of tomorrow is what makes Stanford Medicine a national and international leader in health care.”
The U.S. News Best Hospitals survey separately ranks America's top children’s hospitals. Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford achieved rankings in all ten pediatric specialties for 2017-18. It is the only children’s hospital in Northern California to be ranked in all 10 specialties in this year’s survey.
