Stanford Health Care Achieves Highest National Honor for Nursing Excellence

STANFORD, CALIF. – Stanford Health Care has again been awarded Magnet Recognition for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the highest national honor given for nursing in the United States. The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program^® has become the gold standard for nursing excellence and identifies health care organizations who demonstrate superior quality in nursing care, patient care, and innovations in professional nursing practice. This is the third time Stanford Health Care has achieved this recognition, which is awarded every four years.

Magnet-recognized health care organizations consistently demonstrate excellence in the following areas:  

• Higher patient satisfaction with nurse communication, availability of help, and receipt of discharge information.
• Lower risk of 30-day mortality and lower failure to rescue rates.
• Lower rates of falls.

Currently, only 444 hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition and only two percent of the world's hospitals have received the award three times. An organization that reapplies for Magnet Recognition must provide evidence of how staff members sustained and improved Magnet concepts, performance, and quality over the four-year period since the organization received its last recognition.
