August 14, 2018
Hospital in top 1 percent of more than 4,500 surveyed
STANFORD, CALIF. – Stanford Hospital today announced it was again ranked 9th on U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll of the best hospitals in the country. The ranking reflects Stanford Health Care’s outstanding performance in quality, patient safety, and reputation, among others. Stanford Hospital was also ranked in 12 medical specialties, number four in the state of California, and the number one hospital in the San Jose metropolitan area.
“My colleagues and I are incredibly proud that we’re again ranked in the top 10 on the U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll this year,” said Stanford Health Care President and CEO David Entwistle. “This ranking reflects the great commitment and passion of our physicians, nurses, care teams, and staff for patient care and the best possible outcomes. It also illustrates Stanford Health Care’s role as a national leader in health care innovation and collaboration.”
As in previous years, U.S. News & World Report gathered and analyzed data for more than 4,500 medical centers and surveyed more than 30,000 physicians to rank hospitals in various adult specialties. Stanford Hospital was ranked in 12 medical specialties for 2018-19: cancer; cardiology & heart surgery; diabetes & endocrinology; ear, nose & throat; gastroenterology & GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology & neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology; and urology.
“This year’s U.S. News rankings illustrate how Stanford Medicine is transforming patient care through precision health,” said Lloyd B. Minor, M.D., Dean of the Stanford University School of Medicine. “I am grateful to our extraordinary faculty, residents, and fellows whose visionary translational research, proactive and precise patient care, and commitment to educating the medical leaders of tomorrow have made possible the recognition we celebrate today.”
The U.S. News Best Hospitals survey separately ranks America's top children’s hospitals. Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford achieved rankings in all ten pediatric specialties for 2018-19. For the 14th consecutive year, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford has been ranked as a top pediatric hospital in the nation by U.S. News in June.
