Stanford radiologist, Jafi Lipson, MD, explains why the compression that takes place during mammography is so important for accurate breast cancer detection. Many women are apprehensive or worried about the pain and discomfort associated with compression of the breasts during mammography. Doctor Lipson explains in detail what compression accomplishes and hopes that if women understand the value of compression they will feel less apprehensive about the process.
