Stanford Health Care – Now
Stanford Health Care Community Partnership Spotlight: Samaritan House
SHC has proudly supported local Samaritan House for over a decade. At its two sites in Redwood City and San Mateo, Samaritan House provides support for the social determinants of health of the most vulnerable in San Mateo County through case management services, emergency shelters, community clinic services, and food and financial empowerment programs. Stanford Health Care and Stanford Medicine’s Primary Care and Population Health Department of Medicine (PCPH) faculty serve as a community-academic bridge for the organization. In addition, Samaritan House opened its doors to host Arbor Free Clinic, one of Stanford’s Cardinal Free Clinics, since 2021. This partnership then grew in 2022 when PCPH worked with Samaritan House to recruit and hire a medical director for the Samaritan House clinics, SHC’s very own Dr. Baldeep Singh, along with two other Stanford Medicine faculty, Drs. Tamara Montacute and John Wuchenich, as the Associate Medical Directors. SHC’s partnership with Samaritan House also entails substantial donations to support the medical mission, with a Community Health and Partnerships investment of over $2M over the last ten years. In recent years, this investment has supported the Total Health Collaborative which aims to improve overall medical, dental, and mental health services for the community; provide preventive care, manage disability; detect and treat health conditions, increase life expectancy and quality of life, while alleviating the increasingly overwhelming demands placed on emergency rooms for episodic primary care for the uninsured.
