Leaders in Complex Cardiovascular Diseases
06.29.2026
Stanford Medicine cardiologists are globally recognized leaders in cardiovascular health, with a long history of groundbreaking innovations across a broad spectrum of cardiovascular care, including but not limited to heart failure, aortic disease, and structural heart disease.
Experts in heart failure
Stanford Medicine’s experts offer advanced diagnosis and treatment options for patients with heart failure. Many specialized clinics within Stanford Health Care work together to treat heart failure, offering patients an unparalleled range of options.
The Stanford Health Care Heart Failure Program specializes in treating complex heart failure cases that other centers cannot treat. Leaders in aortic diseases, including Marfan syndrome and other rare conditions
Stanford Health Care has one of the country’s most renowned centers for treating aortic disorders. The Center for Marfan Syndrome and Related Aortic Disorders was the first of its kind in the western United States.
This center is the most comprehensive program for Marfan-related thoracic aneurysm in California and one of the largest programs in the country. The researchers and clinicians at Stanford Medicine perform trailblazing research on Marfan syndrome and related aortic diseases, which informs the advanced treatments they offer. Their leading-edge surgeries include valve-sparing aortic root replacement (VSARR)/aortic valve repairs, Ross procedure, total arch replacements (TAR), thoracoabdominal aneurysm repairs, endovascular surgery and more.
Innovators in structural and surgical valve treatments
Stanford Medicine faculty treat complex structural heart conditions, including heart valve disease and congenital heart diseases, through the Structural Heart Program. They have pioneered many innovative structural heart techniques, including the first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in Northern California and the first transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Stanford Health Care also has some of the nation’s leading surgeons who specialize in mitral valve repair. The Mitral Center has awarded Stanford Health Care six consecutive Mitral Valve Repair Reference Center Awards for excellence in mitral valve surgery. Its renowned specialists perform a high volume of mitral valve repair surgeries—about 200 to 300 a year—with a continued commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes.
