Dr. Girgis received his undergraduate degree and Medical Degree from Ein Shams University in Cairo. He did an internship at Herrick Hospital in Berkeley, followed by a one-year surgical residency at Highland Hospital in Oakland. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been in private practice in Oakland since 1975. He is fluent in Arabic.

the provider (who was NOT my primary on/gyn) didn't ask my name or anything about me. He just walked in and started talking at me not with me. I am a nurse and was wearing my scrubs, and yet he continued to talk down to me the entire time, explaining what a cervix and biopsy are. he even continued to talk over me when I explained that I new what it was. He made a comment that upset me during the procedure when condescendingly told his medical assistant "see this is why you tell the patient to relax, it would have made this easier". He said this while I was feeling vulnerable in stirrups, with a speculum in and was understandably nervous about the procedure with a stranger.

this was the worst HCP experience I've had in my entire life. I've told family and friends about this visit and they've all be shocked. I went in for an issue, had the doctor - without examination, without any empathy - tell me that I was mistaken about my problem (that my period changes were a gynecological issue and that I was mistaken about my own body). He suggested I try to get pregnant to solve my real "issue" (which we disagreed about). at one point I felt SO deeply misheard that I started crying. this doctor literally stopped what he was saying and said "I'll wait [for you to stop crying] because I want you to listen to what I'm saying." I couldn't believe the insensitivity of someone who has allegedly been working with women and their bodies for so long. I'm frankly still appalled at the service I received and won't be doing the lab work he recommended. I would rather pay another specialty copay somewhere else than to have to see this doctor again.

His expertise, familiarity with most recent scientific literature, listening and communication skills and human touch was first-rate. I had a very difficult procedure in which he wasn't able to insert a new IUD. I Don't consider this his fault at all, but it was very traumatic. he was extremely kind, as was the nurse. I don't completely feel that I understood the options available to me moving forward.
