Clinical Education
The Clinical Education team focuses on the orientation/onboarding, education and training, and competency management for nurses and interdisciplinary colleagues across the continuum of care.
Some of the CEPD Clinical Education programs and initiatives include:
The Foundations for Acute Care (FAC) program provides on-boarding for the incoming RN who has been hired into one of Stanford Hospital’s Acuity Adaptable Units (AAU). The AAU nursing model serves patients ranging in acuity from acute care med-surg to the intermediate critical care arena.
The FAC on-boarding program extends the acute care, med-surg nurse’s knowledge base, clinical reasoning, and comfort zone in the AAU range of acuity.
This program is designed to give an overview of the skills, tools and resources needed to help new hire RNs care for our patients and succeed as a nurse at Stanford.
Stanford Health Care (SHC) recognizes the importance of innovative approaches to competency development in nursing and has integrated technology alongside established competency models such as theTiered Skill Acquisition Model (TSAM®) and the Donna Wright Model.
By incorporating these tools and models, SHC aims to ensure that all nursing staff are well-prepared to handle the complexities of patient care, which leads to improved patient outcomes and a safer healthcare environment.
Stanford Health Care (SHC) is committed to building and sustaining a rich professional practice environment (education philosophy) as a joint responsibility between management and staff.
An expression of institutional commitment to professional knowledge development is evidenced by the range of opportunities SHC provides for clinical staff and nurses to achieve advanced education, certifications, continuing education, and skill development and maintenance.
SHC is committed to ensuring that all levels of caregivers are provided with competency-based orientation and ongoing education that promotes clinical and professional advancement.
The world of practice changes and process improvement occurs rapidly in the health care delivery environment.
At SHC we are innovating our training by providing just-In-time training through the Virtual Learning Center that supports the learning needs of the end users in real time.
Leveraging technology such as eLearning and microlearning, eBooks, QR codes and video learning, we can disseminate practice changes and equipment training via the intranet and on mobile devices.
Our team collaborates with institutional wide educators to conduct needs assessments and create educational plans for implementation and information dissemination.
