Tinnitus, often classified as ringing in the ears, is the sound of ringing, roaring, buzzing, or clicking that occurs inside the head. The sounds of tinnitus may come and go, be continuous, occur in one or both ears, and vary in pitch.
Currently, more than 12 million people in the US suffer from some degree of tinnitus. Of these individuals, at least 1 million experience ringing in the ears so severely that it interferes with their daily activities, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
