Pap smears, be gone? Using menstrual blood to detect HPV
02.01.2023
I think it's safe to say nearly all those who menstruate can recall a moment when their period felt embarrassing, inconvenient or even shameful. These feelings can have negative ramifications, posing obstacles to regular health screenings, like pap smears, even though such procedures are routine for vaginal health and the standard for diagnosing cervical cancer.
But what if, instead of a nuisance, menstrual blood was a diagnostic powerhouse? What if it could detect infections or even cancer, making screenings like pap smears a thing of the past?
