Andrea Portocarrero Castillo, MD is an exceptional physician. She was 15 minutes late because she needed to go over a document I sent her via MyHealth. It was very important that she go over that one-page document in detail because it had my history of the health condition and what remedies I tried or am still trying.
Dr. Andrea Portocarrero Castillo went over very comprehensively what actions she was proposing for me to take. However, it would be beneficial to describe the "sequence" in which the actions should be taken. For example, I would first have an MRI. Then, based on those results I would be seen by Brooke Gurland, MD in colorectal surgery. And that I could set up a call with a nutritionist, in parallel with the MRI and potential visit with Brooke Gurland, MD.
Overall I am very thankful for the exceptional service Andrea Portocarrero Castillo, MD provided to me and for her thoroughness. I would recommend her highly to anyone needing similar care.

Dr. Porto Carter’s did two things that put me at ease and made me relax.
I’ve waited over 10 years to talk to a specialist about the issues I’ve been having because of my fear that it would be difficult to diagnose and if it was not diagnoseable I would be dismissed. When she said, “and even if all the test comes back negative, you’re still having symptoms and we’ll have more information and can figure out next steps.†That alone made me not nervous about testing and procedures needed because even if it all came back negative, she was going to help me figure out how to manage whatever is going on.
Secondly, when I expressed fear over a colonoscopy she just asked, “tell me a bit more about that.†I got to tell her about a family members negative experience with it and why that made me scared. She gave me the information I needed, let me know she still recommended I get it and that she would put in the order, but emphasized that ultimately it was my decision and that she wanted to be sure I was set up properly to get it done if I decided I would. It was probably the best balance of medical advice with compassion I’ve experienced as a patient. Thank you for your excellent communication and compassion.
