On this specific visit, I was particularly anxious about the treatment. I verbalized this and she respectfully acknowledged my anxiety and diligently tried to ensure my comfort by performing slowly, talking through everything to manage my expectations, checking in on me, and doing so with kindness and not judgment (e.g. dismissive of my feelings). With past providers, I've had very bad experiences for this specific treatment, and she was a comforting exception that day. I need to have my ears washed out and we discussed waiting until I feel better to have water placed in my ears b/c of the cough and cold I had been going through these past 5-6 weeks. At the end of the visit Dr. Thornton just walked out of the room to see another patient, I thought she was coming back and she did not, she was off to the next patient, all b/c of time constraints between patients. She did mention this to me but we really did not say good-bye.

She was extrordinarily understanding about my 12 minute tardiness and went out of her way to arrange for the medication to be dispensed as soon as possible. My regular Internist was off that day.

I do not like going to the doctor. I do not feel conventional American medicine is good for preventative medicine. Things like nutrition and exercise are not talked about our encouraged nearly enough. That being said Dr. Thornton was amazing. Although her healing practice may not align with how I want to heal she was accommodating and thoughtful of my beliefs. I truly appreciate her not dismissing my diet (plant based) or use of herbs (tea tree oil for fungus) and not pushing me to use medicines I have had bad experiences with (steroids for eczema). I'm very grateful to have found her as a doctor.
