Blood transfusions
All blood used at Stanford Health Care comes from volunteer donors. You are encouraged to speak to your physician about whether a blood transfusion is anticipated. You can use blood obtained from volunteer community donors (Community Donor), from friends or relatives (Designated Donor), or, if appropriate, your own blood (Autologous Donor). An information brochure entitled, "A Patient's Guide to Blood Transfusion," is available from most physicians or from the Blood Center Web site. This brochure answers questions about transfusions and describes the various types of donations that may be used. For further information and appointments regarding blood donations to the Stanford Medical School Blood Center, please call:
- Community Donor 650-723-7831
- Designated Donor 650-723-6667
- Autologous Donor 650-723-6667
If you have questions about blood usage or billing, please call the Hospital Transfusion Service at 650-723-7346.
