The Department of Clinical Nutrition provides nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and counseling for adult inpatients and outpatients at Stanford Health Care.
Care and Treatment
Nutritional Counseling (Medical Nutritional Therapy)
Are you in need of Medical Nutrition Therapy for:
- Diabetes care?
- Management of chronic kidney disease and pre-end-stage renal disease?
- Promoting weight change?
- Reducing your risk for heart disease?
- Improving your blood pressure?
- Assessing your nutritional status and determining your individual dietary needs?
- Heart Health?
- Nutrition education?
Digestive Health Center Nutrition Services
Our dietitians can help you make proper food choices to:
- Improve appetite and food intake to reduce risk of nutrient deficiencies
- Counteract undesirable weight loss
- Reduce symptoms of nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea occurring with or after meals by helping you identify problematic foods in your diet
- Implement specific nutrition guidelines to help treat a diagnosis, such as:
- Celiac disease
- Dumping syndrome
- Food allergies and/or food intolerances
- Gastroparesis
- GERD
- Inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis)
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Pancreatitis
- Short bowel syndrome
TPN or tube feeding (TFs) patients:
- Recommendations or adjustments to your current feeding regimen as needed.
- Strategies to help you increase your food intake to assist in the transition off of TPN or TFs.
For Patients
The Stanford Department of Clinical Nutrition staffs registered dietitians to provide medical nutrition therapy for adult ambulatory care patients. Simply ask your doctor to complete a referral to a dietitian.
PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
- Patients may want to check with their insurance companies to determine if medical nutrition therapy is a covered benefit.
AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT
Follow up appointments are recommended to help monitor your progress.
