Chronic Diarrhea
What is Chronic Diarrhea?
Diarrhea happens to nearly everyone and involves frequently passing loose or watery stools. Although it is normal to experience changes in your bowel habits, diarrhea that lasts more than four weeks is not normal. When this happens, you have chronic diarrhea.
Chronic diarrhea does not commonly involve other signs of disease, such as bleeding, anemia, weight loss, or fatigue. In some people, chronic diarrhea is sign of an underlying medical issue. Even if you have some normal bowel movements, it is important to see a doctor so you can avoid complications, such as dehydration and malnutrition.
With a dedicated General Gastroenterology Clinic, our team of experts at Stanford Health Care delivers advanced testing to quickly and accurately diagnose your condition.
