Retinal Detachment Risk Factors
Retinal Detachment Risk Factors
Certain factors can increase your risk for developing a retinal tear or detachment:
- Extreme nearsightedness (high myopia)
- Previous cataract surgery
- Severe eye injury
- Previous detachment in the other eye
- Family history of the condition
- Weak retinal areas (often identified during an eye exam)
Anyone with a risk factor should get an eye exam on a regular basis.
