Autoimmune Hepatitis Diagnosis
Diagnosing Autoimmune Hepatitis
A diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis starts with taking your full medical history and performing a physical examination.
Diagnostic procedures for autoimmune hepatitis may include the following tests:
- Liver function tests
- Cellular blood counts
- Bleeding times
- Electrolyte tests
- Tests for other chemicals in the body
Autoimmune Hepatitis: Advanced Diagnosis
If blood tests are not able to provide conclusive results, Stanford specialists offer advanced methods to diagnose autoimmune hepatitis. These methods include:
- Ultrasound (uses high frequency waves to assess blood flow to the liver)
- Liver biopsy (liver tissue is removed for further examination)
Treating Autoimmune Hepatitis
Once we confirm a diagnosis, we will discuss your treatment plan. Treatment options include corticosteroids and immunosuppressants. Liver transplant may be an option as well. Learn more about autoimmune hepatitis treatment.
