Conditions Treated – Virtual Colonoscopy
Conditions We Treat With Virtual Colonoscopy
The main purpose of a virtual colonoscopy is to examine your large intestine for signs of growths that could become colorectal cancer (colon polyps) or colorectal cancer at its early stage, when it is most treatable. You may consider virtual colonoscopy as an alternative to screening colonoscopy, if you do not have any risk factors for colorectal cancer. If you have one or more risk factors, we recommend you have a standard colonoscopy.
Risk factors that generally make a standard colonoscopy a better option for you include:
- A personal history of colorectal cancer or multiple or advanced colon polyps
- A personal history of chronic inflammatory bowel disease
- A parent, sibling, or child in your family under 60 years of age who has had colorectal cancer or colon polyps
- A family history of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, such as familial adenomatous polyposis or Lynch syndrome or hereditary nonpolyposis colon cancer
