Our Approach to Aquablation®
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, is a noncancerous condition that commonly occurs in many men as they age. Symptoms of BPH, such as trouble urinating, can interfere with your quality of life.
At Stanford Health Care, we offer Aquablation, a minimally invasive BPH therapy that uses a robotic approach, via heat-free waterjet resection of the prostate. We are one of only a handful of health care facilities on the West Coast offering this advanced therapy.
With Aquablation, our urology experts use a no-incision, no-heat procedure to target and remove the obstructing tissue of the enlarged prostate. This innovative therapy provides long-term relief of BPH symptoms with a low risk of side effects or complications.
What We Offer You With Aquablation
- Expert team of internationally recognized urology specialists, including doctors who have expertise in treating BPH.
- Comprehensive care for you as a unique person, including your emotional health and lifestyle.
- Award-winning, multispecialty medical center ranked among the top hospitals nationwide for patient safety and quality.
What Is Aquablation?
Conditions Treated with Aquablation
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a noncancerous condition that causes the prostate gland to grow too large. The prostate gland, located just below the bladder, produces part of the fluid that makes up semen (fluid that protects sperm).
BPH can cause problems that affect the prostate, bladder, and urethra. Aquablation targets and treats these problems, known as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).
Examples of LUTS caused by BPH include:
- Erectile dysfunction
- A need to urinate often or urgently
- Frequent bathroom visits during the night to urinate
- Inability to hold urine
- Pain during urination
- Trouble emptying the bladder completely
