About Surgery for Multiple Myeloma
Surgery is commonly used for people with multiple myeloma to treat complications involving the body’s bones.
In multiple myeloma, plasma cells in the bone marrow can multiply so rapidly that they crowd the space, weakening the bone and making it vulnerable to fracture.
Surgery can be done to strengthen and stabilize the bones. Patients often get other treatments (drug therapy or radiation therapy) to block the growth of myeloma, in addition to surgery.
