Oropharyngeal: About this Treatment
Techniques of Oropharyngeal Surgery
Your surgery team will prepare a treatment plan that uses the least invasive approach to remove your cancer. Some of the more minimally invasive techniques may use a tiny flexible tube called an endoscope to reach and remove cancer. Sometimes, your surgeon will recommend the assistance of a surgical robot. During Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS), your surgeon will operate at a console near the surgical table to guide the slight, but precise movements of tiny instruments to access and remove difficult to reach tumors and a margin of surrounding tissue.
Patient treated with minimally invasive operations generally experience less pain and faster recovery than patients treated with conventional surgeries.
