Sarcoma: About this Treatment
Techniques of Sarcoma Surgery
Many sarcomas in the arms and legs once required removing the limb (amputation.) Now, many patients may be treatment with limb-sparing surgery. That is commonly followed by radiation in an attempt to kill any lingering cancer cells.
Amputation is sometimes the only way to remove all of the cancer or to avoid leaving a limb that will not function or will result in chronic pain.
If surgery has spread to distant organs and cannot be completely removed, your care team may recommend drug therapy options rather than surgery.
