Prior to joining East Bay Family Practice, Dr. Irene Kelly practiced at La Clinica de la Raza in Oakland, CA. She was originally drawn to family medicine for the ability to treat family groups and all aspects of the life cycle. She is enthusiastic about expanding the prenatal program at East Bay Family Practice.
Her special interests include prenatal care, preventive care, and learning more about complementary medicine. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, volunteer work at film festivals, and yoga.

Dr Kelly was able to review my history and medicines online quickly and easily (I could tell by the questions she asked), and was able to discuss medicine interactions and what I needed to do.
She was able to explain to me the expected progression and hopeful conclusion of this Covid episode, and give me guidance on normalizing interactions (when to test and how to modify isolation to match), as well as the possible side effects of the treatment including the possibility of "Paxlovid rebound".
Overall a productive and calming experience.

She is thoughtful and cautious. She takes her time to go through questions. Sometimes she seems to not want to make a decision until she has time to research a question. She seems to be very careful about medications and sometimes I have to wait to get an answer after the visit. which sometimes can be a bit frustrating. However, I know that she's very carefully weighing all of her options, and is doing her best.

the dr accused me of being hostile, suggested I see a cognitive behavioral therapist and asked me to find a new PCP. this was my first visit to a dr since i moved to CA after being misdiagnosed in Vail CO and had to undergo 5 weeks radiation therapy last fall. the dr showed no empathy. I was shocked to say the least. she seemed incessant about my history and focused on details from 20 years ago.

Dr. Kelly seems very knowledgeable overall and knows about good specialists to recommend. However she did not remember seeing me the previous time for my wrist injuries and foot pain (this was a follow-up visit to that previous appointment, which was my first time seeing her). She thought it was another doctor who had seen me because someone else's name was listed as my primary care provider, which was correct and was supposed to have been changed to Dr. Kelly last time.
Doctor was running late from a previous appointment and did explain this, but felt she was very rushed with my entire appointment, which was also the last of the day. Did not offer opportunity for me to ask questions - i had to squeeze it in as she's rushing out. Was asked to make some important decisions on how i wanted to proceed with my prenatal screening without speaking to me first/checking if I had any questions. In no way was the doctor rude, but just very rushed and did not seem to show concern for my questions/worries/concerns.

I really like Dr. Kelly. She shows great concern and compassion toward any issues I have. She always gives me more information than I ask for.
Dr. Kelly is very good at providing information and answering all my questions. She also offers helpful suggestions. She is patient and I never feel rushed or that she is in a hurry. She is aware that I do not like to medications so sometimes she will offer alternatives to try but will explain about the significant of a particular medication should I need to take it. Also she does not just talk to you during a medical exam but actually exams you... checking eyes, ears, stomach area, knees, back ...etc. I only mention this because some of my friends who see other doctors say they do not really look at your body...they only ask if "do you have anything bothering you".

This was by far the best experience and best doctor I've seen in a long time. Dr. Kelly was so perceptive, smart, kind and communicated in such a way that met all my needs. I want her to be my primary physician from now on. Even if Dr. Kelly was slow, which she wasn't - she'd still be worth the wait for her expertise, thoroughness, follow-up and kindness across the board. Most doctors, PA's and NP's sent me away simply template matching me for basic things like flu or a cold, but as it turns out I was having Asthma or symptoms, & by paying attention I feel the best I've felt in years with her diagnosis. She is excellent and I hopeyou will give credit where credit is due. Thank you, Dr. Kelly. I look forward to our next visit.

I must have missed when the provider told me how long test results take to come back. when I messaged through MyHealth app the response, I felt, was pretty rude. while I understand the provider prioritizes conditions in need for treatment every patient is concercerned about their own health. if the test results would have been uploaded to the app, I would not have bothered the doctor with a message.
Doctor is pretty good. I just don't like the fact that when she's delayed, she rushes through the appointment and I feel like I can't get all my questions answered with patience.

I like the fact she gave me medicine to deal with the nausea due to my pregnancy. She was concerned about my weight loss due to it, so she gave me the medicine without hesitations.
Told me she would prescribe low dose of medication 20 mg. but when I picked up meds I was told lowest was 10 mg.
Always very good. Does not rush. Spends as much time as needed.

Your administrative requirements makes the dr. be more focused on computer entries than looking @ the patient. It's not the dr. fault.

Despite the fact that it was late Friday afternoon, Dr. Kelly spent at least 45 minutes with me, asking and answering a lot of questions and doing a thorough examination.

The only issue I am having with my physician regarding follow up care is receiving a response back via email regarding my prescription. I understand she is very busy but unfortunately my situation is time sensitive and we discussed this during my visit that I would be following up via email with information so she could write my prescription. However, it has been over a week and I have not received an email response.

My experience with Dr Kelly was excellent. She took a lot of time to talk with me about various issues during this specific visit (although this wasn't a unique situation for her). She was thorough and I feel she is genuinely concerned about my health. She told me in this visit that she had followed up with a specialist I was seeing for surgery just to make him aware of something before the surgery. This was so proactive on her part and I was very appreciative to know that she had done this. I have a very positive opinion of Dr. Kelly.

The doctor who came in was very cold and did not indicate why she asked me the questions she did. There was very limited communication about what was going on, and she seemed to go through a script that seemed unrelated to my specific situation

once the doctor arrived we were interrupted three times by staff asking the doctor questions about another patient. she has to leave the exam room twice as well. someone else was having breathing distress which I understand was an emergency but it was very difficult to have a cohesive conversation as a result.

Dr. Kelly made room in her full schedule to do a decompression on my swollen finger. She explained the whole process to me and why it was urgent. When she showed me the amount of pus that drained from my finger I was so grateful that i was able to have the procedure done right there in the office. If I had waited longer I would have needed to go to the ER.
i have to wait til my doctor to come back from her vacation next year to give more information regard my lab work

I was seen by Dr. Kelly late on Friday afternoon, her staff called around to find an xray facility open late to perform an xray. Dr. Kelly phoned me personally Monday evening to check on me and give me an update on the insurance authorization for the MRI.
I would actually like to change to this provider. It's the best experience Ive had at Stanford.
Dr. Kelly is an exception physician for my general practitioner needs. even when very busy (without a PA,) she has always taken the time that I needed with me. She gone above and beyond to ensure that I'm completely taken care of, no matter if it's helping me to understand my condition or helping me navigate disability.
No discussion about my blood pressure taken at that appointment, which was very low - dr. spent too much time on the computer, not with me.
Again, I did not appreciate my doctor and her assistant discussing my medical condition in the lunch room with the other staff.

not a great experience. Dr Polly Young was my Primary Physician in the past& wasn't happy with Dr Irene. She didn't show any care to me at all. Planning to get another one for my next appointment. I felt like she doesn't like black person.
This was my first time with a fairly new doctor. She did not really listen to me and was very cold and impersonal. I wasn't confident that my problem would be helped. My intuition was correct; I have to call back tomorrow as the problem has gotten worse.

I have not had many visits with this provider. This was probably my second or third (?) During my last visit, I was very, very unsatisfied by her impersonal manner--the fact that she never looked away from her computer screen to make eye contact. During this visit, she was more personable and I felt she was more connected to me as a person.
I am not sure that we were a patient/doctor fit. She seemed to do everything "right" but I didn't feel completely understood. When I mentioned anxiety and needing possible short term medical support in addition to a therapist recommendation, she gave a prescription but dropped the conversation about the therapist. it just seemed very old school and less holistic in approach. It seemed that I may have been unclear on my needs and maybe her questions were the wrong questions. I have been spoiled by having previous doctors who uncovered the issues underneath the presenting problems.
I appreciate doctor's concern for taking a proactive stance regarding medications and avoiding possible crises and extreme discomfort over the weekend. I was concerned by the doctor's perspective on CT scans. I would not have a CT scan to my head unless it was a matter of life and death. The comparison to radiation from a plane flight was really off the mark. But I did appreciate her being open to look more deeply into an issue.
I didn't see my usual provider so was nervous that id have to explain everything and/ or she wouldn't care about my problem. instead, she did a careful interview and physical exam, and thought about a solution based on the problem and my history. I felt taken care of, and her recommendations worked. also she gave me 2 ace bandages in the exam room and applied them, so I did not have to make a trip to the store or try to figure out myself. convenient and helpful. she provided hope that it would get better and might not need surgery.

Dr. Kelly is not my regular doctor: Dr. Schreiber is. But Dr. Kelly saw me when I was really sick with a cold/flu, and gained my confidence...so that when I wasn't feeling better the following week, and I asked to be seen again, I was happy when she was available to see me quickly. Dr. Schreiber was not available on short notice, but Dr. Kelly was an excellent relief pitcher! She gave me confidence that this was a virus, not a bacterial infection, and that I had to slow down and rest, and it would get better. And it did.
I am very pleased with the care provided by Dr. Kelly. She listened to all my concerns and gave me a very complete yearly physical exam. I feel like my health and wellness is very important to her.
I just recently starting seeing Dr. Kelley as my PCP after my former doctor retired. Really really happy with her so far. =)
