Family Planning
The Division of Family Planning Services and Research at Stanford University offers comprehensive, compassionate reproductive care for women of all backgrounds. Stanford faculty and staff provide individual care to women in a safe, respectful, supportive and friendly environment. The Family Planning clinic provides family planning services for individuals who seek birth control options, management of unintended and abnormal pregnancies, contraception for people with complex medical issues, difficult IUD/Implant insertion and removal, and comprehensive abortion care — including via telehealth. The Family Planning division is also committed to research, resident physician and fellow training, and education in the field of family planning.

Care and Treatment
Family Planning
The Stanford Family Planning Clinic provides:
- Contraception – all types: pills, patches, rings, injectables, intrauterine devices (IUDs, including Mirena, Liletta, Paragard, Skyla), implants (Nexplanon)
- Contraception for high risk women – contraception for patients with complex, challenging or chronic medical conditions
- Emergency Contraception – “Plan B”, Ella, Copper IUD (Paragard)
- Pregnancy Testing and Options Counseling
- Medication Abortion
- Termination of pregnancy up to 24 weeks
- Permanent Sterilization Methods – Essure (Tubal Occlusion), Tubal Ligation
- Medical and surgical management of miscarriage
- Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) management
- Telehealth appointments for abortion care, miscarriage care, birth control, and contraception
For Patients
You may require a referral to the Gynecology Clinic if you have an HMO health plan. Some services may also require advance authorization by your insurance company. For referral questions, call 650-498-7835.

Fax a completed Referral Form with the following supporting documentation:
- Recent/relevant typed clinical notes/test results (history and physical, MRI/CT/x-ray results)
- Proof of insurance
- Authorization information (if required)
