Symptoms of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) Symptoms
The symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy are primarily those of weakness leading delay in motor development. Because Duchenne progresses rapidly, it is important to get an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible.
Signs and symptoms of Duchenne muscular dystrophy in boys may include:
- Weak legs, especially in the thighs and hips
- Difficulty running or jumping
- Trouble getting up from a lying-down position
- Trouble walking up or down stairs
- Frequent falls
- Weakness in the arms or neck
- Loss of the ability to walk
- Difficulty breathing or catching a breath
- Swallowing difficulty or choking on food
