Risk Factors for Multiple Myeloma

The cause of multiple myeloma is not known, but there are some known risk factors. A risk factor is anything that increases the chance of developing a condition.

Risk factors for myeloma include:

  • Age over 65
  • History of a related condition, called monoclonal gammopathy
  • Male gender
  • African American
