Red and brown spots are usually harmless and occur naturally with aging.
In some cases, however, red or brown spots can be signs of bleeding under the skin, conditions such as shingles, or cancer. That’s why it’s important to have an experienced doctor check any unusual spots you notice on your skin. If a new spot appears and doesn’t go away (like a temporary condition, such as a sunburn), it is best to see a doctor.
