Gastrectomy Complications
Complications Associated with Gastrectomy
As with any procedure, it is possible for complications to happen. However, this is uncommon. As experts in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, we take extra steps before, during, and after your procedure to help you avoid complications.
Possible complications associated with gastrectomy include:
- Pushing food from your stomach to your small bowel too quickly (dumping syndrome)
- Acid reflux
- Diarrhea
- Chest infections, including bronchitis and pneumonia
- Internal bleeding
- Nausea and vomiting
- Stomach acid leaking into your esophagus, causing scarring and narrowing (stricture)
- Vitamin deficiencies
- Unintended weight loss
